Help!!!! I need help with my 10 1/2 month old son, I am trying to get him sleeping in his own bed! We just got settled into our own place, he's been sleeping with me and my husband off and on for the past 10 months due to us living with family! I try to just let him cry, but he'll cry forever and NOT go to sleep! How long is too long to let them cry, does anyone know!?!?!??! If I get him to sleep before I go to bed he'll sleep in his own bed/own room for maybe 2-3 hours, then he wakes up and sometimes I can just pat him back to sleep, but other times he won't! Should I go pat him back to sleep or let him cry himself back to sleep?!?! I don't know, but I know he's gotta start sleeping in his own bed if we want another baby!! I am trying to find info on safe cribs for my newborn. We have one now that I'm replacing, and wondering if anyone knows anything about it.

Has anyone purchased a crib online before and had to deal with assembly, etc? I have only found one site with nice stuff.. stanley furniture.

Wow, I wish I could get 11 hours of sleep at night. I'm lucky if I get five anymore!

I would say don't wake her up to feed her and see if she will sleep through the night. With my daughter once I put her to bed early she actually slept longer through the night. She was getting around 11 hours of sleep at night at around 3 months. Let her tell you when she is hungry at night and if she isn't then let her sleep. I think my daughters last feeding was around 8:30 and she would sleep until like 7:30-it was wonderful. Hope this helps.

My daugher it now 7 weeks old and we have been following "Baby Wise" from about 2 weeks and she is waking up once through the night (from 11:00pm until 7:oo am)....I am thrilled...however we are trying to figure out her early evening schedule. She will feed around 6:30 and then at 8:30 and be extremely tired to the point that she will fight it. She finally subsides to it and will fall asleep around 9:30/10:00... then we have to wake her around 11:oopm to feed her and then we put her down. My husband seems to think that we should take out the 11:00 feeding, however..."Baby Wise" wants middle of the night feeding to be the first feeding to be dropped. At what week do they start to drop that middle of the night feeding?

I am so glad that your daughter is sleeping through the night now. A good guide to follow for anyone having the same issue of a 3-4 month old who is not sleeping through the night is a book called "Baby Wise." It helps you set a flexible feeding schedule and teaches you how to teach your child to put themselves to sleep. This is a really important skill that they need to learn. In the book it actually teaches that most commonly it takes three nights of crying themselves to sleep to learn it. My son cried for 55 min the first night, 30 min the second and only a whimper on the third. From then on he was one happy cooing baby until he finally fell asleep. Hope this helps.

Thanks for your help. I let me daughter cry for three nights in a row and now she is sleeping 11-12 hrs. a night. It is sure nice to bet getting sleep again at night!

our daughter was one of the ones you had to wake her up to nurse durring the night so after a month or 2 we just started letting her sleep through the night.

We let our daughter sleep through the night at a very young age (3 months or so), and she's been a great sleeper ever since. However, our second daughter has a bit harder time staying asleep, but we've also been more relaxed with her than our first. We are not as dedicated to giving her time to calm herself down, so she has gotten into the habit of getting a quick response when she whines or fusses.

On a final note, in the last week or two, we've let her get herself back to sleep when she fusses in the night. She has made a dramatic improvement, and I personally think it's good to let your children get in the habit of calming themselves down. I feel it gives them a sense of control when they start to master their own emotions.

Of course, this is just one opinion of many!

My daughter is 7 months old and is still getting up once at night to breast feed. Is this normal? When should they be sleeping through the night? I let her cry it out the other night but I am just not sure if I should be doing that or if she will sleep through the night when she is ready.
