Choosing the Best Gifts for Babies

So, you’re looking for that perfect gift for a baby, but you’re not sure what to choose? Here are a few quick tips for shopping for gifts for babies.

Shopping for baby gifts can seem difficult, especially when faced with the dilemma of not knowing what someone else is going to purchase for the little one. However, the job is really quite simple. Take my advice, almost ANY gift will work just fine, and I’ll tell you why:

When searching for baby gifts, you may be tempted to find something personalized and unique, as if you were shopping for your own father, or spouse. This is nice in theory, but completely unnecessary. A newborn baby is brand new to this world, and therefore has very little to his or her name. When you bring a gift of clothes, toys, even necessities such as diapers and wipes, you can be sure that a little “extra” in these basic items can be a huge relief to new parents.

Having a baby brings a whole new set of responsibilities, and having a few extra gold plated baby rattles around will be the least of these parents’ worries. Don’t get caught up in the details, or in trying to stand out with the ‘best gift’. Just think about what you used and needed most with your newborns. These items are sure to be the common needs of most parents, and therefore will make the ‘perfect gift’ that you are seeking to provide.

If you are not yet a parent, then let me share a few ideas with you. These are things that we found to be much needed (and greatly appreciated) gifts when our first few tikes came around:

-Baby Rice Cereal
-Gift Certificates to Grocery or Baby Stores
-Onesies
-Tennis Shoes for a toddler
-Toddler Drink Cups
-Baby Blankets
-Burp Cloths
-Picnic Blankets/Baskets
-Baby Gift Baskets
-Bedding Sheets
-Diaper rash cream, such as A+D or Boudreaux’s Butt Paste
-Diapers
-Diapers
-More Diapers

As you can see, most of the items listed are simple, common gifts. It may seem a little awkward at first coming to a baby shower with a baby gift basket filled to the brim with diapers, wipes, and Boudreaux’s Butt Paste; but trust a mother: it will be the winning gift of the party.

After the glitter and glitz of the festivities wears off, the gifts that save the most trips to the store, (and the most money in daily expenses), are the ones that are most highly favored. Keep it simple, and you can’t go wrong.
